A Comparison of Blakeââ¬â¢s Poems ââ¬Åthe Divine Imageââ¬Â and ââ¬Åthe...
Erich Nolan CMLT-C205 3/19/12 A Comparison of Blakeââ¬â¢s Poems ââ¬Å"The Divine Imageâ⬠and ââ¬Å"The Human Abstractâ⬠William Blake (1757-1827, London) is considered the first of the great English Romantic poets; he was also a master engraver, a printer, and a painter. Blake was not widely known during his life and it wasnââ¬â¢t until some time after his death that his poetic works became widely read. Two of his best-known works ââ¬Å"Songs of Innocenceâ⬠(SoI) and ââ¬Å"Songs of Experienceâ⬠(SoE) contain the poems that I will compare here. These collections of poems are companions, but it should be noted that SoE was written about 4-5 years after SoI. The poems are best read by seeing them in their original print form with the accompanying engravings. Manyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Eighteenth century England provided many such conditions that Blake explored through his work. ââ¬Å"The Human Abstractâ⬠is an assault on the values from ââ¬Å"The Divine Imageâ⬠as being ideals only suited to a world made imperfect by humanity. The values spoken of represent a passive o r resigned sympathy for suffering but donââ¬â¢t suggest any obligation to alleviate that suffering and make the world more just. In this way, the speaker in ââ¬Å"The Human Abstractâ⬠refuses to think of these values as ideal but suggests that they are only a response to the accepted norms of a cruel society. In SoE, Blake is showing his disgust for a society that perpetrates such evils on humanity and the church that uses God as a tool for controlling those who suffer. ââ¬Å"The Human Abstractâ⬠is a critique of the important virtues that were praised in ââ¬Å"The Divine Imageâ⬠. Analyzing Pity, Mercy, and Peace, these differ from Love as an innocent abstraction, and the poem explores the insidious growth of a system of values based on fear and repression. This is unlike ââ¬Å"The Divine Imageâ⬠which suggests a more positive tone with respect to Pity, Mercy and Peace. Influence Of A Slave s Point Of View - 1381 Words
The Influence of a Slaveââ¬â¢s Point of View As taught, slavery existed for a good portion of American history from the 1620ââ¬â¢s until its abolishment in 1865. Its existence created a big controversy over the morality of white Americans and challenged Americans ideal of a free country in a multitude of ways. As brutal as present-day Americans think of slavery, is the same way the abolitionists thought of it then, especially after reading Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass an American Slave by former slave Frederick Douglass. This narrative became a big deal when published in 1845 for its influences that it had on the white Americans that were ignorant to the brutality of slavery. The narrative was purposely created to move the emotionsâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This then leads to the other argument that slaves need to be governed like children, according to George Fitzhughââ¬â¢s excerpt from ââ¬Å"The Universal Law of Slavery.â⬠Fitzhugh uses the idea of paternalism to make a claim against the idea of slaveryââ¬â¢s brutality. His argument is that slaves do not have enough intelligence to make their own decisions and that they are happy to slaves because they get the resources they need to live and they donââ¬â¢t have to worry about making complicated decisions like the adult American. Fitzhugh also makes a claim against the northern factory laborers work in which he refers to as being more uncomfortable than being a slave. James Henry Hammond furthers this argument in 1858 by recognizing the idea that the slaves of the South are incapable of recognizing their enslavement and therefore, are made by God, to serve as free labor for the white race. Religion also plays an important role in the pro-slavery argument. Just as Hammond agreed that slaves are made inferior by God, he furthers this notion in his excerpt from ââ¬Å"Letter to an English Abolitionistâ⬠by quoting specific words of the bible that support his point that slaves are what God considers to be ââ¬Å"bond smen forever.â⬠Because America is supposed to have been based on high morale of religion, this biblical support allowed slaveholders to feel morally right in their pro-slavery decision. These arguments were deemed legitimate for a while until Frederick Douglassââ¬â¢s narrative proved the

Hotel companies are incorporating home concept to market their offering which has proofed to be advantageous to the business. Local and international food, seafood and cultural food are among the dishes that the staff should make delicious. They can also be allowed to join in the cooking as part of competitions. Having examined the above concepts, Jo Joe county lounge need to consider the following home concepts in marketing; The lodge needs to set up a means on which the visitors can complain through and respond quickly. Use of Facebook and Twitter may be relevant in making a timely response to customers needs thereby maintaining customers relation. There is a need for the hotel to stand out through the offering of wine tastes in their bar and display of information in bathroom screen. They have to be ahead of competitors in ensuring that their visitors get the advanced sense of hospitality. Installation of solar panels for water heating should be a norm. Systems should be updated so that air conditioning and lighting automatically switch off when guests leave the rooms. This is meant to conserve the resources using them sparingly. The hotel should be advertised in televisions, and magazines .there need to display and elaborate on their uniqueness and why the guests have to choose their services over their competitors. Creativity should be enhanced in social media so as to affect a lot of fans and followers. Recommendations The hotel needs to be constantly up to date with the innovations in the industry. There is a need for investing in information technology to access information that is vital to business survival in the competitive world. There is a need for Periodic training of the staff on the genuine hospitality. They should be aware of the changing trends in hospitality and to adjust their services to suit in. Integrating unique designs in color, statutes, and decorations in the hotel to appeal and surprise the customers(Woodside, 2008). Designers with expertise experience should be contracted to furnish the rooms. Further study should be carried out to explain more on the concept of the home in hotel companies. Conclusion In conclusion, a home concept in commercial accommodation plays an important role in the overall attainment of the goal and objective of the firm. Customers always remember the unique hospitality and the appealing and relaxing features in the hotel. This will motivate a return visit and loyalty to the firm.
